The Queensland Police Service (QPS) Next Gen initiative aimed to transform how frontline officers interact with operational tools in the field. Legacy systems were fragmented, manual, and heavily reliant on paperwork—slowing down critical tasks and increasing administrative burden.
We designed and built a new iPad application from scratch, supported by a robust design system, to streamline workflows such as roadside testing, incident reporting, and legal documentation—making processes faster, safer, and more efficient for both officers and the community.
My Role
Led the design of a scalable design system from the ground up
Defined tokens, components, and governance model
Collaborated closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders
Contributed to the design of key operational features used daily by officers
Facilitated alignment across teams to ensure consistency and quality
Frontline officers were relying on manual paperwork and fragmented systems, leading to slow, time-consuming processes in high-pressure situations and poor usability in field conditions
The opportunity was to rethink the experience end-to-end—designing not just screens, but a system that could scale and adapt.
